Cultural Activities

The first term generally begins in the month of June. The Wardens Dinner is the first activity which is held, once all the residents come into the hostel. During the dinner, The Warden and the old residents get to know the new comers. The new comers are given an idea of the programmes which are to be held throughout the year.

The next activity is the Principals Dinner. The hostilities invite the principal and his family for dinner. This has been a tradition of the hostel since a long time. The purpose of this activity is to introduce the principal to all the residents. the Principal gives a heart warming speech to the residents.

Freshers Nite is the most awaited event for the seniors. In this event the seniors and the freshmen get to know each other better. An informal show is organised for the freshers, in which they have to perform for the seniors. Freshers Nite is a fun filled event where freshmen get a chance to show their talents. This comes in useful as the seniors get to know about their talents and thus they can prepare them for famous Mackichan Talent Nite.

The next activity is the Talent Night which is held in the college auditorium. This helps to show and bring out the talents of residents. Over the years maximum participation has been observed, which truly signifies the Mackichan spirit. Talent Nite is a contest where the residents are encouraged to display their talents. A panel of judges awards them for performance, originality and talent. There is also a personality contest cum fashion show.

The next activity is Flag Hoisting on the 15th of August. We first hoist the flag in our hostel then we go to college for the flag hoisting of college.

The next activity is Antarnaad. It is an Inter-Hostel debate competition that is organised by us. Hostels from various parts of the city look forward towards this event. A different theme is chosen every year and students have to debate 'for the motion' and 'against the motion'.Back to top

Excursions

The third activity in the hostel is our Hostel Picnic. Its usually an excursion for 2 to 3 days to a beautiful and relaxing hill station where the residents get a chance to breakaway from their monotonous life. Great care is taken on all safety concerning issues. Also the cost is kept at a minimum so that students can easily afford it. Attendance for all such trips is compulsory.

The next activity is the Hostel Movie. The residents organise a group visit to the most awaited movie. This also gives us a chance to serve our mess workers as we take them along and ensure they enjoy their evening out and their minds get refreshed. Back to top

Festivals

Mackichan Hall a place where people unite irrespective of their background like caste or religion.

Holi: The festival of colours is celebrated in its true essence, where people coming from different parts of the world and various backgrounds greet each other with colors.

Diwali: With great pride this festival is celebrated by all Mackichanites with candles and oil lamps. We feel great pleasure in serving food and sweets to all. Mackichanites do not advocate the use of fire crackers. Please join us in this solemn pledge and contribute to this noble cause.

Iftar party: Another great ritual of Mackichan Hall. This is practiced on one of the days during the month of Ramzan. It is all about the evening fest that the Muslims are supposed to have during their fasting period. Here again this ceremony is celebrated by the whole of Mackichan Hall.

Christmas: Christmas one of the most popular and sacred festivals celebrated in Mackichan Hall. The cake ceremony is the most awaited part of this celebration and we also have some one performing as the Santa Claus distributing gifts and sweets and making the eve even more cherishable. A grand dinner party is given by the Warden. . Back to top
